final fridays book club

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
By: Michelle Hodkin
Isbn: 978-1442421769
Length: 452 pages

At the end of every month I host a book club where I work. It is every last Friday of the month at 7 pm and Octobers book was the unbecoming of Mara Dyer.

This book is by far one of the best books I have read this year (coming in second to Divergent by Veronica Roth). It is hard to talk about a book with the vaguest possible dust jacket and that if I say to much I run a chance at ruining the story. However...

Mara Dyer has a secret. A secret that she isn't about to spill the beans on. Not because she doesn't want to, but because she doesn't remember. All she can remember is that she lived and her friends didn't. Uprooted from her life, her family moves to Florida. That is when she meets Noah. Noah.He aids her in unlocking the secrets in her mind, with some secrets of his own. And boy does she have secrets. I mean talk about attention grabbing

Michelle Hodkin weaves a fantastic story, seamlessly mixing in hallucinations, given by post traumatic stress disorder, into the characters world, truly making the reader back track asking themselves, "Did that just really happen?" She has thought out every detail of her story, a lacking quality in most books. This story is propelled forward by Mara's personality traits by far. She doesn't take any shit from the other characters and is pleasantly sassy.

Dark and at times humorous this book is a most.

Check it out it is amazing. The second installment comes out fall of 2012. I can't wait, hopefully I will see you all in line waiting with me!

5 out of 5
